Implementing Standards for Data Curation and Management
Data & Standards
Data & Standards
H3ABioNet provides guidelines on the standardized collection, curation and use of clinical phenotype and exposure data, as well as data management, and provides support for REDCap as a data collection tool. We work with the H3Africa consortium to harmonize phenotypes and to map clinical and experimental data to existing ontologies in an effort to make the H3Africa and H3ABioNet outputs FAIR.
- Data Management
Genomic data are increasing in size and complexity, and data privacy and security are criticial for human data. Therefore it is important to ensure data are managed in an organized, secure and ethical manner. H3ABioNet provides guidance to the consortium on data management and governance. Read more
- Data standardisation
H3ABioNet’s efforts surrounding data collection and curation involve the promotion of standardised data collection processes across H3Africa and the wider African research community, the harmonization of data derived from different H3Africa projects, and the promotion of data curation through mapping to ontologies, where applicable. This is to enable data retrieval and comparison and to make the data FAIR. Read more

FAIR
In order to increase the value of H3Africa and H3ABioNet resources it is important to make them FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). Read more.

REDCap
H3ABioNet provided guidance and support for clinical research data collection to the H3Africa consortium projects through recommendations on REDCap implementation, development of data collection instruments and running various trainings. Read more.
