The African Symposium on Genome-Wide Association Studies for complex diseases (ASGWAS) conference brings an interdisciplinary group of scientists to the potential of GWAS and to key strategic considerations in designing and performing gene-mapping studies in the African Continent. This Symposium showcases state-of-the-art advances in the dynamic fields of advanced Medical and Population Genetics, Bioinformatics of diseases mapping and Drug Discovery, Personalized and Precision Medicine. It is the forum for discussing current challenges, introducing new directions and for announcing technological breakthroughs.

Topics of interest include GWAS assumptions, Medical and Population Genetics, showcase of GWAS potential, GWAS experimental design, GWAS data analysis and integration, challenges of GWAS post GWAS: Fine-mapping, meta-analysis and GWAS in protein-protein interaction network, GWAS for African populations, sequence analysis, evolution and phylogeny, Disease mapping and human health.

The African Symposium on Genome Wide Association Studies (ASGWAS) for complex disease 2015 programme can be found here.

Prior to ASGWAS conference, join us on April 19th - 23rd, 2015 to participate in the special workshop and tutorials on Medical and Population Genetics and GWAS for complex diseases. This workshop will cover fundamental assumptions, discuss recent successes and limitations of current GWAS approaches in the field of complex diseases, particularly in the case of African populations with known low linkage disequilibrium (LD). It will also provide ‘hands-on’ experience of data analysis and stage for shaping the next generation of GWAS scientists/researchers by drawing on the audience’s interdisciplinary expertise in e.g. statistics and machine learning to overcome present challenges and identify the most promising avenues of future research to effectively associate phenotype –genotype association.

You are invited to attend ASGWAS on April 23-24, 2015 to present your research, learn about the latest developments in the field, network with colleagues, and help shape the future of GWAS in Africa populations and Bioinformatics of diseases mapping and Drug Discovery, Personalized and Precision Medicine in African context!
